In many homes, it's not uncommon for two living Spaces to co-exist - the living room wooden bed frame and the family room. Although some people may use these terms interchangeably, there are significant differences between the two rooms, such as their physical location in the house and their role in our daily lives.
What is a living room?
According to Amy Peltier, creative director and CEO of Peltier Interiors, a living room is usually located at the front of the house near the entrance and is often a formal room wooden bed frame. "They tend to be very reserved and are considered one of the most 'precious' rooms in the house," she said. In fact, in Chicago, designer Kelsey Heywood runs her interior design studio, which could also be called the "front room." "For us Chicagoans, the 'front room' or 'living room' is usually at the front of the house," she said. "This space may have once been used as a more formal living room (though rarely now!)." "
Peltier notes that the focal point of the living room wooden bed frame is usually the fireplace, with a formal seating structure around it. However, Mr Heywood said he could not rule out buying a TV. "Often, fireplaces and TVS may or may not be part of the equation, depending on the frequency of use and whether there is another (more casual) family room in the house," she said.
What is a family room?
The family room wooden bed frame is a casual space for people to meet and relax, usually directly from the kitchen. "Our family rooms are always close to or completely open to the kitchen," Peltier says. "A lot of times we call this space the great room because there is no separation between the two Spaces.". "It's a family gathering place, so naturally, everything is livable and approachable. We put the furniture around the TV, and the first choice for this room was a spacious and comfortable area."
The main difference between the living room and the family room
Of course, you may wonder what the real difference between these two living Spaces is, which often boils down to form. The living room wooden bed frame is much more formal than the family room, and in terms of home layout, the living room will be at the front of the house, while the family room may be right next to the kitchen.
In a home with only one gathering space, you are more likely to see only a family room rather than a living room. "The new house I'm building rarely has a living room because it tends to sit at the front of the house and is only used for formal entertainment," Peltier said. "However, they all have a family room where members of the nuclear family will relax together every day."
Tips for decorating each room
If you have two rooms with wooden bed frames in your home and would like to use the living room as a formal entertainment space and the family room as a lounge for relaxation, our designers have shared these tips to keep in mind.
Living room
Your living room can go a little higher in design choices. "Usually, I think of a living room as a space with more fixed furniture, maybe a little taller," Heywood says. "We often use furniture with more sculptural elements on the frame."
Peltier agrees, noting that she often uses lighter fabrics in her living room because they don't use as much as other Spaces in her home. "Living rooms wooden bed frame can often handle more delicate fabrics; We even like to decorate the main part with light colors to white because it's not used as much.". "The living room always has a more structured layout, and many times the furniture is arranged around a nice fireplace."
Family room
The family room may be a little more comfortable - this is where your family and friends gather after a long day and relax around the TV. "In the family room, we often use swivel chairs, deep sofas, and all those details are meant to be comfortable, homey, and welcoming," Heywood said. "Coming out of the pandemic, this consideration is at the top of most of our customers' minds!"
Since this room's wooden bed frame will be used much more than most other Spaces in your home, considering your fabric choices is key here. "Durable fabrics such as Crypton or indoor/outdoor options are must-haves for family rooms," Peltier says. "This room is likely to be used twice as much as the living room because this is the space where everyone spends their time every day." If you have small children or pets, you may want to choose high-performance rugs and upholstery that are usually stain-resistant.
